Jason Ramsey

Hello there!

My name is Jason Ramsey and I am Station Development Officer here at Branch FM. If you were to ask me under any normal circumstances what I do my standard answer would be “as little as possible!” But not at Branch FM, maybe the answer “pretty much everything I could pack into a day” would be more like it? Every lazy mans nightmare! Basically, I am charged with many presenting, production, programming, training and administration matters of the station, with the overall aim of developing Branch FM to make it better suited to serve you, the people of Dewsbury. Well at least that’s my best shot at telling you what my role involves.

I was born at a very early age (0 in fact) and quickly progressed through the years (as well as the places I lived.) In the first few years of my life I lived in Belfast (place of my birth), Boston, Middlesbrough and Eston. I have a mum, dad and two sisters names Sarah (15) and Hannah (7). I also have a lovely and beautifully supportive girlfriend called Abi (note: not Abigail, she’d kill me!!!) My family are the most wonderful thing on earth to me and I love them to bits, but am pleased now to have left them to join with my new Branch FM family here in Dewsbury.

A major part of my work here, at Branch FM, is involved in presenting the breakfast show (when we go live on FM) This takes up the majority of my time. I started out on my presenting in hospital radio with Southside Broadcasting and Radio North Tees. I would recommend anyone who wants to start on their way to a radio presenter to do some time in Hospital radio. It was a great experiment ground for me. From there I progressed to doing RSL’s with Refresh FM in Manchester and Grapevine FM in Lincoln. I also did some commercial radio with Alpha FM in Darlington. At the same time I was doing a weekly show with CrossRhythms City Radio in Stoke-on-Trent, Saturday City Special and The Sunday Sequence which I did for just short of a year before taking time off to do my exams, enjoy a well earned holiday (ok, so that's no different to my exam revision, but if its offered, take it, right?) and then apply and be appointed to the position of station development officer where I am now.

Throughout my young career thus far I have always wanted to do what I am doing. I started my first hospital radio post at 15 and was appointed SDO with Branch FM at 18. I spent 3 years doing lots and lots of free work for station and (as any presenter will tell you) that was the most important thing I ever did in radio. To show the commitment and to spend the pounds (and lots of them) working at stations I learnt and developed all the skills I needed. But why persevere? Those who know me, know that I love joking and having fun yet the reason I do so is because I enjoy my job, I enjoy my life. The reason why I enjoy it though is a serious one, one of the few serious things you may ever hear me say. You see I’m a Christian! At age 9 I realised I was a sinner and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ's offer of salvation. Now my “everything” is for Him. I believe that whatever I do I should do it to the glory of God, and that is my promise to you in Dewsbury and around the world listening on the net. I will do my best, and work as hard as I can, because I want to show you something of my Saviour.

So finally (before I leave you alone) what importance to I have to you? Well, as a community radio station Branch FM is here to serve you and listen to you. As the SDO it is my job to be available for that. If you have questions, comments, suggestions, complaints (about my appauling jokes) or anything else, I am the man you should contact. Also if you are interested in doing a bit of radio then again, I am your man. We are committed at Branch FM to bringing through new talents and skills in ALL AREAS of the radio station, not just presenting.

Community Radio is about passion, entertainment and commitment to the town of Dewsbury. I hope that I shall be able to meet this challenge with everything I have, doing it all, for the glory of God.
